Syn
Syn was founded in Tokyo in 1991 as a global collaboration between Simon Le Bon (lead singer of Duran Duran), his wife Yasmin Le Bon and British composer Nick Wood. The company was established as an outlet for their joint passion to create music and sound for visual media. Under the Syn banner, Nick has spent over 30 years traveling the world and gathering a network of some of the most talented and unique vocalists, musicians, sound engineers, composers and instrumentalists.
Born in Liverpool, Emmy-award winning composer, Nick Wood, has written music for over 2,000 commercials, as well as a host of critically acclaimed film, tv and video game projects. Alongside winning an Emmy in 2017 for CNN’s ‘Why We Go’ campaign, Nick has won 14 coveted Promax BDA awards and 2 Clio Awards. Nick’s innovative style of composition and distinctive approach to music production has led to creative collaborations with such artists as Dr. John, Julian Lennon, Robert Palmer, Chris Corner, Graham Massey, Jon Hassell, Bebel Gilberto, Maxi Priest, Simon Le Bon, Tetsuya Komuro, Van Dyke Parks, Ariana Grande and Katy Perry.
Under Nick Wood’s creative direction, Syn studios (Tokyo, Los Angeles, Beijing, Shanghai, London, and Manila) have been lending their collective talent to some of the most powerful brands in the world. Working with innovative creatives and demanding brand stewards keeps pushing the company to provide unique and innovative solutions for each project - whether recording a 90-piece orchestra in Macedonia, a beat-maker in Mumbai or a Shakuhachi player in Tokyo - Syn’s global network of creative minds is able to deliver authentic music and sound for clients in every corner of the world.
From creating the engine sound of the Fiat 500E (Italy) to working with Apple’s Media Arts Lab (UK/USA), from collaborations with Chanel (France/Japan) to working with Disney for over 20+ years (USA), Syn has developed trusted relationships with a host of global clients who - like Syn - are on a journey to discover ‘What the world sounds like.’
